After over a decade, the cult classic: The World Ends With You is finally getting a second entry in the series with it being titled Neo: The World Ends With You. It appears to be a prequel, based on the trailer released by Square Enix today.
The game will be a 3D Action RPG which is a quite different approach from the original game that heavily utilized the Nintendo DS touch screen. The gorgeous art style from the first game is returning as the game goes for a very cell-shaded anime-style presentation. Square Enix has stated the game will be coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch in the summer of 2021, 14 years after the release of the original game.
The original The World Ends With You was met with critical acclaim back when it was released, however, due to poor sales, most assumed Square Enix had left the series for dead but the series has been on a sort of revival with a re-release of the game on Nintendo Switch in 2018, and Square most recently announcing that an anime based on the game would be releasing next year. The series is coming back and will no longer be relegated to Kingdom Hearts cameos!
