Since All Elite Wrestling’s conception back in 2019 fans have speculated if there would be a video game adaptation. Wrestling and video games have gone hand in hand since even the NES. And today, AEW has officially announced a console video game is in development.
The untitled AEW game was shown off with a teaser trailer highlighting the games art style, inter-gender wrestling and arcade-inspired gameplay. The game will be developed by Yukes, the same studio that had made WWE games for the last 20 or so years. In 2019, Yukes left the WWE brand, after feeling limited by the games. The announcement also explained that the game would feature arcade-style gameplay as opposed to the realistic WWE games of late. And the game will be heavily inspired by WWF No Mercy for the N64, with even the original Director coming to helm the new game.
The wrestling video game genre has largely been dominated by WWE games over the last decade, so a new non-WWE game is worth taking note of. The game was given no release date or window and was stated to be coming to current-gen and next-gen consoles sometime in the future. It remains to be seen who else will be in the game or what else will be included in the game but the announcement made it clear they will be updating fans on their YouTube page and Twitter @AEWGames.
